hi, i just bought a 706 and have only found one thing wrong so far. It seems to shift hard, iam not sure why and it seems to slip out of reverse sometimes. sometimes it takes a couple trys to get it to stay in reverse .Ive never had anything bigger than a 460 so this is all new to me. Can it be fixed by adjusting the linkage or is it more complicated than that.

I live in Northwest PA and the guy that I worked for just sold a 706 Diesel with a wide front end on it in December. The motor is new but the shifter was always kind of a pain. If you want, email me and we can talk. Kipppster

thanks for the advice, as soon as i finish building my pole barn, i will get started. If i dont get to it before hay season, is it going to hurt it to use the tractor as is. Tractor vet i sure wish you traveled..haha. you should start a traveling repair service. thanks again...iam sure i will have many more questions for you.

Well i would like to but RED has not sent me his credit card so i can buy that lear jet so i could cover the country and i don't think the old 88 Ford ranger would take the pounding of a LONG SERVICE CALL as it is realy on it's last legs and not worth putting to much money into fixen it. The springs are shot the radatior leaks the heater core leaks when it warms up the trans start to do it's owen thing the body is suffern from terminal cancer but it starts .

Now don't go and start tryen to adjust the linkage as this is not going to help , first pull the cowel and look for excess play at the shifter then fix what ever it needs there like the littel as i call them the cubcadet tierod ends then move on down and pull the floor plate off and the kick panel and see how much slop you have in the headed pins on the linkage repace them with the factory ones not what you can buy that will fit as you never get the correct location for the cotter pins . then work the shifter and see how much slop you have in the range transmission cover on the shift lever and the reverse shifter piviot if there is a bunch of slop then the cover needs to be rebushed you need to find a good machine shop that can keep the center line of the org. holes and bore them out and make a press fit bushing and while that is off ya want to make sure that the keyway in the rev, shift rod-arm -lever is good and all the rollers and there as sometimes from hard shifting they break in half and you will find them in the hdy. filter area . Now before ya start tearing into the range cove get ahold of me and i will walk you thru this step by step and you will not have any problems.
