Would a roll-pin be OK to use through the drive gear on the oil pump? ken

If the gear shaft has a woodruff key it would carry the load and the roll pin would just retain
the gear on the shaft. I have a parts breakdown
on the Super C oil pump and they use woodruff keys on the drive gear and on the driven gear that is secured with a horse-shoe shaped retaining
ring. The drive gear is secured with a pin. Hal

Guess I'd better re-word that last post again. My oil pump drive gear has a woodruff key with a 3/16" retainer pin through the gear & shaft. I can't get the 3/16" pin locally, so I'm using a roll-pin. ken

Just make sure the roll pin is a tight fit. Hal
PS: I have a bearkdown on the 504 oil pump too.
It uses a woodruff key in the drive gear and a
1/8 pin. The driven gear must be a pressed fit
on the shaft since no pins or clips are shown. Hal

El Toro, Thats the setup I have. I guess my first post wasn't very clear. I can't find a solid pin, so short of using a peened over drill bit stub, I'm going with the roll-pin. Thanks

If it had a roll pin in it use one. If it had a hardened steel pin that is the ticket. Roll pins are not my favorite solution, they are brittle and not strong in shear. Putting a tapered pin in a location that had a roll pin requires a reamer specific to the pin. (opinions vary on this issue)
