Hi
I justs took delivery of a 560 Diesel and cant get the thing started.. Lots of smoke out the exhaust while cranking but no ignition. I understand this engine has glow plugs that need warming up. Can someone tell me the correct proceedure for doing this.. thanks
Joe

Glo plugs can be checked easily by pulling the spade lug from the top of the glo plug & using an ohm meter on the x1 scale with the leads between a good ground & the exposed glo plug terminal. The reading should be checked on each glo plug & should be near the same value on all plugs. If any plug reads infinity or 0 ohms, it needs replaced. We never had a heater on our 560, & it always started in -10 degree weather. Any colder & heat would help.

There should be a gage on the right side down in front of you with a buttom on the side. Hold the button in the gage should move, hold it for 30 seconds then engage the starter still holding the button, when it starts keep holding the button until it runs smooth. You will have to do this no matter the temp, and even after tractor has been shut down for a while. After the tractor has been shut down for a while 2 or 3 seconds will start it usually, and it will smooth right out

On the bottom right hand side of the dash is where your glow plug switch should be. Things are painted white down there and your right knee will be close to it. There is a meter with the push button. Push the button for 60 sec. Throttle at 1/4. Try to start it. There is a push/pull rod in the GPlug switch area that needs to be pushed in to start and pulled out to shut'er down. Some or all of your Gplugs may not work. And,if it's cold where you are, you may need a block heater too...If so, get the kind that circulates water ..don't get the oil dip stick kind. Dealer, ebay or Bates Eq.(online) will have your manuals. Good Luck!

Hold the glow plug button for 30 seconds and press the start button, keep the glow plugs on for another 15 to 20 seconds in real cold weather. You also need a block heater if you live where it gets even moderately cold.

To the right and down on the insturment panel theirs a glow plug guage and a button that you push and the meter registers when you push the button, the needle should go all the way to the right, if all six are working.Hold this button in for a minute each time before you crank the engine in weather above freezing. If colder a minute and a half. All six glow plugs need to work for proper starting.
