Found this little gem-in-the-rough today near Gothenburg. Drove it back about 45 miles to where I had left my vehicle at a neighbors and will bring it the rest of the way home soon. Thinking I want to put the Hiniker cab on the Hydro then repaint this 666 and put new tires and the flat-top fenders on it. Whaddaya think guys? Maybe somebody needs to tie my hands down. Or I need to listen to my own advice to Allan and stop buying tractors! I just love a turbo though and couldn't help myself. Watch for Ms and Hs for sale shortly. WaHooo!!!!!

Looks good to me!!!! And turboed, you say? Nice little motor when that 312 is Turboed. I don't think you did bad at all, and I don't think it would be a massive headache to get that one looking REAL good!!!!!

You've gotten her that far. If you abandon her, we'll report you to ASPCT (American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Tractors). Take her home! Fix her up!!!

Is that one of those "year-a-round" cabs on there, picked one up a month or so ago and sand blasted it and made new brackets and got it on the tractor, now after I get the heater in have to get lights on the cab, but not sure where is a good place to put the lights that mount like the original ones.

Howard--we must have been born under the same tractor "sign". You got a beauty there and bet it will be fun to fix up! We gotta see it when you get it gussied up! Keep us in the loop--by the way--now have the Super M, the G I bought from you, the Farmall C, the Jubilee, and TWO cubs! Never can have too many tractors!! Steve

Dunno Howard,

How could ya not buy that one? Those old small chassis outfits are just a "natural tractor" as far as I'm concerned.

She sure looks good to me; if she makes ya happy, I'd go get 'er. Heck, life is too short not to :>)

Allan, you have mentioned "small chassis" several times. Since I'm not that familiar with much above the 560 -- what is considered a "large chassis" tractor?

Let's see, how can I explain this..... I'm just not too good with words. Mess it up every time.

But those darned IH rowcrops are all alike if you really look at 'em and in the 06s, the 56s, the 66s and the 86 they pretty much all fell into two catagories; large and small. Nice part is if ya learn one tractor, you've pretty much learned 'em all in that particular size.

Like this. The little guys have the square axle housings and their innerds are all "almost" alike no matter the model; 504s all the way up thru the 686s:

third party imageThe large chassis 706s up thru the 1486s had the six sided axles and they too were all built about the same inside:

That tractor sure has a lot of potential. Those older IHs sure are nice looking tractors. If it makes you happy, buy "em. Now don"t forget to get your signifigant other something nice too. Than maybe she won"t notice the tractor as quickly. LOL

I was thinking the same....I sure could use a cab on my 666. It gets a mite chilly feeding round bales when it's 40 below! I wouldn't care in the slightest what it LOOKED like!

You mentioned turbo on that 666? Must be an add on as they came natural from the factory. Sure does wake that little motor up though and helps the fuel intake. Nice tractor and keep savin 'em one at a time. I'm doing my part out here in the northwest. Migraine
