Last night I ran to IH dealer after work and got all the parts. Mechanic said primary and secondary plates are good for long time. Also got epoxy from Walmart. Cleaned everything up and had assembly hanging on tractor by 8:00. First time I tried stacking plates and discs in outer housing as IT book says and almost impossible to get all splines to line up. Second time I stacked plates and discs on bull shaft and that makes it lot easier as only have weight of outer housing to raise up and put in place. The biggest problem is getting the dowl pins to line up as it is tight space and hard to see in there under cab. I never did get everything to line up and fit up nice and snug so I am all back on the floor right now. Gave up on it at 10:00!
I sure wish I could get that piston housing to stay up tight against side of tractor. as it does not want to go that last 1/8 inch. Yes - all the shims are back on there that were there. Can't figure it!
Any inside tricks other than determination and muscle?

First of all, make sure the bull gear shaft hasn't migrated outward during disassembly. Once in a while they will "fall" outward slightly, and the taper on the tapered roller bearing on the inside of the bull shaft will prevent you from getting the outside piston housing to push all the way in. Cure; Jack up the rear wheel on that side. Put the piston housing in as far as it will go, put in 2 short capscrews to pull it in, and turn the rear tire at the same time. Without the piston housing in correctly, it's next to impossible to do the brakes.

The piston housing can be pulled in place with 2 5/8 short capscrews and should stay in place when they are removed before stacking the assembly.

You can open the bleeder screw and tap the piston lightly with a rubber mallet, this should bottom out the piston. Next install the dowel pins in the piston housing with the beveled end out, now stack the discs and plates on the dowels in proper order and position. The adjusters should be reset, snap rings 3/4 of an inch from the end where pin holds the spring in. don"t forget the four springs. Install the housing over the stack and install the top bolt just a few threads, push the housing against the stack and look for dowel alignment, install the bottom bolt, tighten evenly and carefully, you may want to raise the tractor and rock the wheel to be sure everything is free. I hope with the cab you have room for this procedure, pretty tough trying to put the whole assembly on under the cab! Good luck!

I thought the next time i tear into my brakes i'll have two pieces of all thread about 6 to 8 inches long to screw in and use as a guide.

Thought of that but not enough room with cab mount and tire in the way with all threads or bolts on there.
