Hi, When my 140 is under load (ie. takeoff from a dead stop, cultivators in the ground, etc.) there is a low rapping noise which emits from the crankcase. It sounds like a bad main bearing or rod bearing. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

Chris: I'm not trying to throw cold water on what scotty has told you, he and you both may very well be correct.

Frist look at simple things. I discovered a very similer noise back about 4 weeks ago with my Farmall 130 while plowing snow. I know my tractor needs a piston and sleeve kit, and was hoping to get through winter before having to do this. On my tractor I discovered the distributor had slipped on timing advance and was firing way to late. Correction of the timing advance cured my problem.

Chris, Sounds like you diagnosed your own problem. Good chance it is a rod bearing. As you increase rpm does the rap coinside with the rpm?

Drop your oil pan and check each rod bearing, would be the easiest way to know for sure. Also, has your oil pressure changed at all since this started?

Good luck.
