I saw the 650D that the Bates family has in their collection,
super sweet,
But isnt the color supposed to be a darker red?
I think so, but In not sure as to not step on anyone,s toe,s
It seem,s a little bit orange to me ,
but no biggy I guess,
Sweet Tractor!

IH was a battleship grey color until 1936. Then went to IH50 until 1949 which was IH2150, a brighter red.

Red Power!!

2150 has an orange tint to it. Minor point that most people don't seem to know. IH 50, 1937-1949; IH 1102a or 1102b, I have seen both mentioned, 1949-1958; IH 201, 1958-1961; IH 2150, 1961-until the 5088, etc appeared?. Therefore 2150 was not used until the 404/504 came out so there were actually at least 2 shades for the letter and hundred series, and two shades for the 460/560 and other tractors built during the same time period. Don't ask me the difference between those colors. I have enough trouble figuring the "correct" shade of 2150. 2150 is sold for the old IH tractors, although it really is not correct for pre-1961 tractors. IH 50 and 2150 can be mixed by the major paint companies, don't know about 1102 and 201. Guy Fay says 2150 and 50 are close to the same color -- I wish someone could actually clarify the shades of the different colors. All I hear are rumors, since no old original unfaded tractors seem to exist.

Just finished cleaning the green ? paint off of the oil pan I got at the boneyard for my H. The old pan was beat up pretty bad, so I went looking in the boneyard. The owner said he had a good one, but I wouldn't like the color. He got a H in a few years ago that had been painted JD green. It took me all day to clean all that paint off. At least it had red under it. ken

Hey Kfox,
Right on, that,s what i thought too when I saw your letter,
I would hope that there would be some red paint under that green, Thank God for that,
I dont know who would do that?
But it was pretty silly to paint an oilpan in JD green, when It,s supposed to be IH red,
Well anyway,It,s allright now so you can go on to other thing,s on the tractor,
K,C,
