Tightened up the 3 point control lever friction brake bolts last night and it took 1.5 turns at 1/4 increments to hold them in place. Works Good! Thanks

Tonight I tear apart the brakes on left side as very little assistance in turning. The outside housing removal procedure is evident as remove 6 bolts and pull off outer housing, remove disc, intermediate plate, brake adjuster assy, primary plate, piston insulator and piston. I am assuming that there will be no need to unbolt and remove brake piston housing from tractor unless I see oil leakage from the seal on bull shaft or o-ring on back side. Am I correct?

Pretty much stright foward but you have to reset the snap rings on the on the brake adjustes and also check them for broken springs and the littel pin that holds them together , the piston does not have much movement of the adjusters and the spring is heavy and hard to move read the book on the setting spec. of the snap rings and if not done correctly the brakes will drag. It is also wise to rebuild the brake piston with new O/Rings and put new seals in at this time for the cost it is cheep insurance , cleand up the surfaces that the O/Rings ride on with 180 emery clothe and wash up and blow dry. I use white grease to lube the O/Rings and mating surfaces .

That is correct don't remove the seal unless it is leaking.Or the bull gear.
I used to replace the brakes in a 966. Its pretty simple to do.
Good Luck.

One thing I forgot about those brake drums is there is a notch in the hub for brake dust to get out.
Make sure that notch is open to allow the dust out or it builds up in the drum and causes problems.
Don't ask how I know.
