I just got my first hay baler today, IH #46, needs some work (like everything) The pick up or feeder housing (do not know the correct name) is off. The cams that drive the pick up tines, I was told were falling out of the track and the drive sprocket is broken that spins the feeder.

Does any one have a parts baler laying around that they would be willing to part out, or a manual that they would be willing to copy. It's in peices and I have a little time till summer to figure it out and put it back together.

I'm in southern Michigan.

Thanks Brian

I have a 46 I haven't quite dug into yet. I know it will bale good, but the knotters need tweaking to the extent of 1/64 of an inch every 500 bales or something like that. It's like a 1/6 turn of the hex nut, the old farmer had it down to a system, and told me the first time I bale with it he'd come out and adjust it for me, so I can see what he does.

Parts balers are your best bet for finding parts. I don't know if CIH has any 46 parts in their "Ghostbuster" warehouse in Minneapolis or not. Good luck, hope it runs alright for you. I hope you didn't get a bad deal, it happens a lot on these old balers. :-(

I have a neighbor that tore a 46 apart for the knotters and the gear box. He may be willing to part with the rest of it for a reasonable amount. You may be better off buying another 46 in 1 peice and using yours for parts. You can usually pick on up cheap. Check Tri-Green Implement in London Ohio. They almost always have a 46 baler.

I have a 46 IH complete that has always been shedded. Good condition, complete and together. Problem being is distance apart from Michigan. Located in Dubuque, Iowa. Reasonable price. The 46 was a good trouble free baler. e-mail me if you are interested. jbradley@mwci.net or phone 563.583.3714

If the devil ever needed front line troops who knew how to swear, he'd pick farmers who had operated 45 or 46 balers. They were not the high point in IH's machinery lineup. Probably there were people who thought these balers were top notch. I just haven't met them yet. Maybe the baler was taken apart for a reason. I'd hate to see you spend a lot of time on this baler & then not have it work right.

Thanks baler46, This balers has been local since its birth. I picked it up from the farmer who bought it from the original. The knotters are all new. I only plan on running 15ac. I've been looking at balers and quite honestly can not afford what a newer baler would cost right now, plus I have a lot invested in my 3010 that has issues of its own. So you're offer of help is great. Heres my e-mail address contact me direct and then we wont tie up the board.

I love anything RED, but do you really want to spend a lot of time and money on a very old 46?
If the pickup needs cam rollers it needs a new cam plate also. These knotters are very hard to adjust if you have never done it.
46's and 47's were only lacking good knotters! We bale with a 435.
