Couple years ago I sold several tractors and implements, tools on this site. Equipment ended up all over the country and all sales were fast and friendly. At that time the general feeling was that it was better to put a telephone number in the ad to keep away the email spammers and towelheads. The new system of sending first emails through this site seems better and safer because it keeps the sellers email address unknown at first.

I personally like the first contact with a buyer to be by email and if everything goes well then telephone and complete the deal.

Just wondering if others prefer to make first contact from an ad by phone or email?

I prefer to deal all on email and never call unless I get in the guys area and cannot find him. Then I call him on my cell. I figure it is easiest to communicate that way because of differing schedules and time zones. Also, email is already paid for and a 20 minute phone call several states away can cost a bit. Sometimes I think of things later and then I email asking the guy more questions. With a phone call you rarely have much chance to get a hold of the guy more than a couple times. It makes me mad when a guy lists something on the internet and won't accept emails and only wants to communicate over the phone. I just drop them and the items they list and forget about it.

I agree with you Brian - no emails = no response from me.

Dick: Same here, no e mail, no responce. An old guy in my home town once said, "If you got a deal boy, put er in writing". To me a seller who is saying no e mails, just doesn't want to put anything in writing. Probably because he is as corrupt as any scammer buyer.

I sent a responce to a disk harrow add in photo adds about 6 weeks ago. Asked several questions about the disk which haven't been answered yet. Also he didn't seem to be able to tell me what type of bearings. I e mailed back asking for closeup photos of bearings, of course that would also show up any broken disks. I have yet to receive that photo. I got news for him, if he thinks I'm going to drive 5 hours to find out. I didn't ask a second time, end of deal.

Dellbert: Pray tell, what in H@## difference, I've had just as many nuts call on the phone as e mail on the internet. There is a button that gets rid of both types. What a nutty discussion?

Hugh, If its a "nutty" discussion and you took the time and effort to reply, what does that say about you?

I agree, I would just as soon remain anonymous until I have an idea of who I might be dealing with.

I check my email several times a day and my phone messages 4 or 5 times a week. I wouldn't even have a phone except to acomodate guys that don't have internet. But yeah, If I am buying something I might want to talk on the phone or set up a time to go look at the item. As far as spam I don't worry about that. My delete button still works.
