Just bought a Farmall H that has been setting in a barn for 30 yrs. How much fluids do I need to change all the fluids. From a friend it looks like I need 7 to 8 qts of oil. How much hydralics and gear oil or is it the same for this tractor. What type do I need? I am new this tractor so any helpfule advice is appreciated.

Thanks again

I would replace all of the fluids. Six gal of 90 wt oil in the transmission, 6 qts of 10W-30 (some, use other oil types) oil in the crankcase, ~3/4 qt of 30wt in the air cleaner, don't remember exactly but a qt or two in the steering pot if it hasn't been converted to grease. If I remember correctly 6 qt of non-detergent 40 wt in the liftall. Don't forget about all of those grease zerks as long as you're at it. Yup, these old tractors are like rolling oil wells. If I left anything off others will fill you in.

Do they even make non-detergent oil nowadays? Use CaseIH HyTran or hydraulic fluid that meets those specifications in the liftall (belly pump, or whatever you want to call it).

Nat they make non deterget oil, Yet the only ones that I'v seen that have them are napa brand oil and Citgo also sells them. I use JD hydro oil in mine and it works good. Andrew
