I'm just starting to restore a farmall MD and it has a few minor oil leaks. Most were just loose bolts that allowed oil to seep around the gaskets but the PTO seal is leaking and it leaks really good when its sitting. Where would i find this seal besides the IH dealer?
thanks
matt

Joe's Farmall parts would probably have those PTO seals.

I found some old info. The 358772R91 cross references to CR15330. The 358812R91 crosses to CR13767. I don't know why they don't cross to the same CR seal. I suppose either will work.

The MD PTO seal is the same as a gas M. Any NAPA dealer can get the seal if he has enough interest to look it up. However, I've found that you won't save much by going to NAPA over the IH dealer. Sometimes the IH source will be cheaper. IH seal numbers are 45702D, 358812R91 or 358772R91. You should also get a seal retainer gasket, 66374D. NAPA should be able to cross reference one of the seal numbers to a Chicago rawhide. Don't know if they can get the gasket or not.

It's a standard seal. Look in your yellow pages for a place that deals in bearings and seals. There are shops that do just that.

The original PTO seal is about twice as thick as the one you'll be replacing it with. Don't worry, the thinner seal will work just fine. Install it flush with the rear of the housing. If you're paranoid, just buy two seals and install them back to back.

a local auto parts store may be able to order one for you. I replaced the seal on my MD last summer and the CNH parts are not that expensive. If a dealer is not within a reasonable driving distance, call and have them ship it to you. If you do order and have a shipping charge, try to order larger orders as shipping charges will be cheaper than ordering one or two items at a time.
