THeirs a collector not far from me that has one of the 560's with one.It is bolted on were the belt unit went.He said you only have one gear you can use in the transmission to match the front drive ratio.

Last year's "Tractor-A-Day" calendar, right? That is a pretty neat setup.

My biggest question is, what did they drive it off of? Looks like the pumpkin (differential) is offset to the right. I can only imagine that it was connected to the transmission through the belt pulley access, or maybe through the bull pinion at the brake.

From the '06 series on up, there was an access panel on the left side of the transmission that the Elwood front ends drove off of.

It was probably the same pic that I seeen but it was in a book. I would say that it was the belt access that was used somehow. I have access to machining and several fabricators but would really like some pictures and info such as what frontends were used so I could gett it as original as possible. thanks for the reply keep em comin

Josh: I have seen photos of what I expect is the same front end you mention, on a Farmall 560, built by Elwood. I believe there is a guy on here by the name Wardner, who has one of these front ends, at least he knows quite a bit about them.

Further on Elwood, they are the firm that built most the front drive units for later Farmalls 06, 26, 56, 66 and 86 series tractors.

Elwoods were not used until the late 66 series and the 86 series from the factory. 06, 56, and majority of factory 66 series 4x4's used the Colman units that did not turn very sharp and were inferior to the Elwood units.
