Decided to try and figure out why the torque in my Farmall 400 that I purchased last spring wasn"t worknig. Took the inspection plate off and did some adjusting and everything is working like it is supposed to. By what the service manual is showing and telling me, I fell the over running clutch has worn out and isn"t holding the planet carrier when it gets under a load. Since that could be the only problem, is it possible to just replace the over running clutch (have to find out what all that consist of) or would it be better to just get a rebuilt unit? If so, where is a good place to start looking? Is the T/A repair video on here worth purchasing or would someone be willing to sell a used video? Thanks.

third party image

If it slips only on the low side then its the ramp and rollers.
If it slips on the high side it may be the clutch disk.
I am not sure what happens when you blow the planatary. Hope I never find out.
When I did my 400, I purchased the TA rebuild video after I replaced my TA with a rebuilt unit.
D'oh would have only taken a extra 20 min and cost $300 less to rebuild it my self.

All the work is getting the TA unit out. After that its 3 or 4 bolts and your done.

Well, that might be the problem, assuming that everything is adjusted. I don't claim to be an expert, but I do know that when those 8 little rollers get flat spots on them, that is what causes the T/A to slip under a load To replace the unit you hve to split the tractor twice, at the main clutch and the next spot back. Take the T/A unit to the dealer or someone you know that knows what they are doing. The video I have is from J and D Productions in MI. There phone # is 810 678 3960. I don't know who makes the ones sold on this site, but the one I have was very helpful when I rebuilt the one in my SMTA. Hope this helps

get an IT manual from tractor supply, pretty easy job,Most commonthing to go wrong is rollers in over ride clutch get flat spots & brass pegs that put pressure on the rollers get worn, these items can be purchased at your local dealer for about $30 also get a gasket to go between your housings.
