I was walking in the woods today and found an old Wisconsin engine, been down for years, It had been toosed in the woods to rott the usual thing. I looked it over it was V4 Wisconsin air cooled. It did not have to much left on it, most had been stiped already. Anyway the top of the air cleaner was still on it had the regular "mushroom" top on it then it had a basket, cage, like thing coming down from the cap. Has pretty big holes in it about 1/2" or so. I took it off and it fits on our H and Super H. What would the purpose be for this? Would it have been used on a tractor? Are they worth anything? or just so junk that should have been left in the woods. Sorry for being so long. Thanks for the help Andrew

Poor old thing,Oh well it was probably the best place to leave it for all parties involved.Pappy always said that Wisconsin engines on haybalers sent more farmers to hell than anything ever invented.

That "basket, cagelike thing" with the holes was originally covered with a birdseye or cotton cloth "sock" and tied on with a cinchline.

They were just part of the air filter kept the big debis out of the oil bath.

They were used on all those old Allis All Crop combines that were equipped with the engine also.
