Well,

Decisions are at the front door. Job offer in Denver and I own a nice little acreage outside Lincoln. Doubt I can afford an acreage out there in Denver so.... What would a 49 M distilate be worth with an f10 farmhand, if I sold it. Otherwise I'll find someplace in western Nebraska to store it.

If I did happen across an acreage out there it might be nice to have that old tractor with the loader because I have a pole barn disassembled in my other barn which I could put up with that high lifting loader.

Would the tractor operate different out there as far as altitude adjustments?

What would it cost to have someone transport it out there?

Love nebraska for lots of reasons but job offer is considerably higher even with the adjusted cost of living so I must give it serious consideration.

Thanks for any advice. scott

Wow,

I appreciate the input from everyone. The grass probable is greener on the otherside but I do need to consider this. I really don't have much of a chance to move up where I'm at unless I move. Otherwise I am stuck for the next 10 years.

Overwelming calls to stay in Nebraska, and it is a good life and the rat race can be kept at an arms length.

Basically, if I'm hearing the sentimentality correct .... increased salary does not mean an increase in the quality of a life. I guess I will give it thought over the weekend. Thanks fellas.

My brother-in- law took a job in NYC and he had been in Florida working for the same company 10 or 12 years. It was actually a transfer his wife told my wife that he had received a big promotion to take the job. After they made the move, she told my wife it took more than the promotion to live up there. He had to buy dark business suits and in FL he wore a sports jacket and he was about 10 minutes from the office. They lived in NJ across the river from NYC and he had to take the bus to catch the subway and then had to walk where the office was. This was in the heat or cold and snow. They eventually moved the office to Long Island and they rented there too. Most of the office help didn't move to LI and he had to recruit and hire new office help. They were transferred to Detroit soon after that move and they bought their first home until he retired in 1990.

We had people to take transfers to DC and commuted every day. They were taking the train and had to leave around 5 am and then get over to the Pentagon by 8am and getting back to their cars by 7pm provided the trains were not late. It's nothing worse than having a job you hate to go to. Hal PS: That's why I stayed at the same job for 43 years, that included 2 years in the Army during the Korean War.

I lived in Denver for 6 monthes in 1969 and 1970, it wasn't bad then but I guess it has changed to the point I would not even reconize anything now. My Daughter went to a seminar there a few years ago, she got tired of the food they were serving them so she went for a walk got a cheeze burger and milkshake for $10.

Finding an acreage to use the M on will be so far out of town you would be better with a helicopter to commute. Job would have to pay a bunch more. I moved to COLO SPRINGS for job in 84 and was glad to move back to the place here in WELLMAN,IOWA in 91. enough of traffic locking up everything ect. You will just love the traffic jams on a nice July day when hailstorm goes thru and dont forget snows.

Take a vacation and stay in Denver one week, I'll bet you'll change your mind. There's not enough money for me to live in Denver. I retired and moved to Colorado but HATE Denver. Maybe you can find a place outside of the city!
Good luck
Ron

Personally, don't do it.

We moved from ND to AZ because we wanted the so-called "high paying" jobs. Complete BS. The housing market is so far out of reach that the extra salary is nothing.

Keep the tractor, live a simple life in Nebraska. I will be working here a few more years until I can save up enough $$ to move back to ND and live the truly simple life...

And besides, there is no way I will raise my kids in the city. I want my kids to know something about life besides video games and concrete parks.

Stay in Nebraska. the rat race in Denver is not worth it. Just count how many Coloradians are moving to our state to retire.

Store the M!

A. You might find some acreage outside of Denver.
B. Situations change. Who knows where you'll be in two, three, five years?
C. If stored inside, the old girl will only gain in value.

I sold my '42 H with Stanhoist in '93 when I moved to a city in Florida. Now have a few acres in the woods--man, I wish I had that H!

Stay in Nebraska. We retired from a small farm in NE,sold out and moved to the south of NM. Housing is going for way out of sight. Health wise it was a good move. Financially, probably not.

I wouldn't do it. Cost of living (housing), hassel of traffic, and press of population will make Lincoln seem really liveable. The availability of acerages near Denver is nil. My nickel Dick Davis
