400 Weak Fast Hitch

Looking for some suggestion here. The Fast Hitch on my 400 doesn't want to operate at all when it gets around freezing. I know that the hyd. oil (which is not low in the tank) is going to be really thick but it should still be able to do something. It won't lower or raise with or without a load on it. Just makes a type of vibrating noise when level is moved. In warmer weather, it will lift a three bottom plow but is slow at it. What are some of the possible causes to this? Don't know if it helps or not but this is the fast hitch that has the 2-cylinders on it and tractor has power steering that makes a humming noise.

the screen they are talking about in the regulator is number 10 in the pic. It is a brass top that takes a flat screwdriver to spin it out. IH should have them. The reservoir filter is probably plugged too. its a lot of money but you would be surprised at what is in that reservoir.

I think there's a filter screen underneath a cover on the side of the steering pedestal/hydraulic reservoir. It's a round cover held on by four bolts. That may be clogged.

Hydraulic fluid should not be "really thick" in cold weather. ThickER than normal, but not molasses-in-January thick. If your fluid is thick like that, then you've got the wrong stuff in there. Get yourself some genuine CaseIH Hy-Tran and change the fluid once you've cleaned the screen.

I would change that hydraulic oil to make sure
there's no moisture in the oil. That may be freezing and causing your problem. Hydraulic
oil shouldn't get that thick. My tractor has hydrostatic drive with hydraulic lift. I use Dextron automatic transmission fluid. This is
the 35th year for tractor. Hal
