I am in the process of rebuilding an IH H4 Magneto, replacing the coil, and all of the points and stuff. Inadvertantly I took apart the Distributor Timing Gear and took the gears out to check it and regrease it. Now I am not sure how to line it back up. It came off of a Farmall M, so it is a Clockwise Rotation, which should line up with the "R" on the Distributor spindle. But I am not sure of the marked tooth on the pinion. How is this tooth marked? Is it painted? What color? Or maybe the top of it ground at an angle or something?

Just line up the gears so when the impulse trips the rotor is lined up with the plug terminal on the cap.

Hey DON, Look for one tooth to be ground down a little more than the others. JON

Thanks Jon. I kind of thought after looking real close at the teeth on the gear that one of them appeared to be kind of slanted down a little more than the others. I ordered the magneto book from CaseIH, but then discovered that it was on the internet as another reader responded about. Thanks everyone. See if I can get this thing running now. I couldn't get the tractor started after it sat for several years in my barn, and finally borrowed the battery ignition off of my Super C to run it. It was nice to hear that old M run again, as smooth as silk at 400 RPM's.
