Several years ago now I had and friend over and we took the ole W-4 out. It might have been the beer ..but he didn't think W-4's went as fast as mine. My question is ..are all of the drive train/transmission gears including the bull and pinion gearing gears identical in my 1941 as they are in an H ? When my Dad got this tractor in the early 70's it had 24" rims on it. (I hated this tractor then at age 14 or so it had no muffler and bald tires) Shortly after I got it around 1991 I put 26" rims off of my 1947 "parts-4" on it ....and a manifold and muffler. I have never operated an H so my opinion is void as to the comparison between the two. Rod M.
P.S I luv my 4 now ;)

There is a difference in ratios in the 3rd and 4th gears, and in the bevel gear and pinion. All other gears are inter-changeable. My H had two broken teeth on the 4th gear when I bought it and I fitted a 3rd/4th gear from a parts W4. It increases the speed of the H slightly in those gears.

I grew up on Dad's Farmall H and Grandad's H. We farmed our 101 acre dairy farm AND share cropped Grandad's 155 acre farm a township south of us here in Northeast Ohio. On summer mornings my older brother Bob and I would drive the 2 H's from our place to Grandad's with empty hay wagons. Bob always drove Dad's H as it was just a little bit faster on the road. The H's ran the same RPM's. I think Grandad's is geared slower. Bob, Grandad and Dad are gone now as is Dad's H, I still have Grandad's H although it is due for restoration. Don
