I was looking at an IH 584(I think). The S/N was covered by a plate from the loader, the exhaust went down and back under the tractor and the axel was swept back. Does anyone know which tractor this is? Can anyone tell me what specifically I would look at to tell the differences between these two tractors?

Thanks, Stubob

I'm not sure but the 584 could have an"h" pattern gear shift and the 574 is a straight line.

Stubob: Just briefly looking at 1975 buyers guide with 574 and 1984 buyers guide with 584, I'd have to say the biggest difference is grill and sheet metal. The front casting that front end fastens to is different. Power train specs are the same. They were both available with Utility type rear axles with pressed steel wheels, or live axles and Farmall type wheels. The grill on 584 is same as 66-86 while grill on 574 is a mix of 56 and 66. Sheet metal around perimeter of grill on 574 is 56 while mesh is 66.
