I got my 330U stuck in gear. I took the shifter off and found the fork stuck back and it wont come to center. The shifter can be placed into neutral position but the fork is back enough not to let it our of gear. I can shift it into any other gear but then the tractor will stall out when I let the clutch out. Why does this happen and how can I keep it from doing this again?

Tweeter: I'd have thought we had this one well covered by now. It must come up at least once per week. Both you and Steven need to build up the bottom end of gear shift lever. If you look at the notches in those shift rails, your lever end should be just about the size of the notch in one rail. Build it up by welding then grind it to a rectangle, very slightly rounded on the corners.

Tweeter, the problem you have right now is your tractor is in two gears at same time. The shift lever, being worn small slipped out of one rail notch before disengaging gear, then you put it in another gear. With the shift lever out you will notice each one of those rails have a forward, center and rear position. You can move them with a big screwdriver. All three rails must be in center position for neutral in transmission. You may find tractor is solidly locked in two gears. Two get it out you may have to tug either forward or backward on tractor. The best way to do this is an anchor vehicle and set of cable come alongs. You will have to play that one a bit, but it will come when presure is right.

BUILD THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER UP, YOU MAY BUST GEARS THE NEXT TIME.

This happened to my 400 once. One of the forks was not centered, which left the tranny in that gear. When the shifter was in neutral it was in one gear and you could move forward. Shifting into another gear Put the tranny in two gears at once and it would kill immediately. I pulled the shifter out centered the fork and everything has been great since then. I don't why the shifter came out of the fork leaving it in gear

If there is a load on the trans, or TA needs adjustment, the gera will be hard to slide.
Assuming there is no bind, the spring and ball on the shift rail may be bound up preventing motion to neutral. The shift fork could be bent and not centering the rail.
I would try to move it fully into the gear it is stuck in, then go to neutral.

How much force was applied to it to grt it in the condition it is in?
Let us know!

I put it into gear like a normal shift which are basically effortless. All the shifts are smooth and easy. When I took the shifter off, I couldn't even slide the shift rail to neutral with a punch and hammer. That is with the clutch depressed and on a flat surface.

Same thing happened to our R-crop 300. Was stuck in two gears. I got the shifting rails aligned and it would shift into all gears, but the tractor would want to stall out. Tore it down (split) the tractor. found out that a couple of teeth broken off and lodged in the transmission drife shaft & secondary sun gear. I am in the process of putting in used gears now. Good luck.

Yes, I agree that can happen also, particularly if that shift occured between 3rd and 4th and you dropped the clutch out quick. Even between 1st and 2nd but lower speed helps a bit with this one.
