I have a Super A in which there is a rectangular cutout in the exhaust side of the manifold, of about 1" x 3". Would anyone have any idea as to why this would have been done ? Thank you for your help.

Your tractor was probably a dual fuel engine and thats the way the manifold was. Do you have the plate that bolts on and then the muffler goes on top. Your hood probably has four holes also. Is the shield still on the manifold just above the carb? Do you need the correct pipe assy to bolt to the manifold?

Thank you all for the ideas. I have been to a ballgame, and just got back. I will try to take a pic of it tomorrow and post it for your further analysis. Thank you all !!

Is the hole directly into the exhaust ports?
where on the manifold is the hole? What is the serial number and suffex (if any)?
It is possible someone was making a repair and didn't finish.
Pictures would be great.

Didn't the kerosene Manifolds have a rectangular hole on the top where the pipe bolts on?

Yes, the manifold has a flat surface on top, onto which the top end that narrows into the pipe is bolted. I could send a digital photo of my dual fuel manifold. My e-mail is open.

Les: Rather odd, I must agree with Turk, however a true Super A would have hydraulics. Someone must have been doing some parts exchange.
