Waukesha woes

I am about to tear into the Waukesha FL flat head in my 1933 F12. I haven't been in there in about 30 years but last time I just replaced the rings and cleaned up the cylinder walls. The question is. can I now find bearings and rings? The parts catalog shows .040 undersize bearings so they aren't babbited. Anybody have part numbers for bearings, rings etc. that will do this job? The folks at NAPA just look at me like I lost my mind. 30 years ago I just walked into a local independent auto parts store, asked for the rings and walked out with a brand new set of perfect circle rings. Now what?

I work at a NAPA store and we still do have the big catalog racks although we use them less and less there are many times we still need them.
I checked the Clevite HD engine parts catalog and the smallest Waukesha it lists is an FC. But the FC had a 3-1/4" bore, so the rings won"t work.

When I started rebuilding my Waukesha 20 yrs ago,
I couldn"t find the right bearings even then. I was able to get rings though. The mains that the machine shop got fit the crank, but were too small for the block. And of course the rods were poured babbit. Luckily for me, My gandad was a machinist and he poured new rod bgrs
and main brgs. He also made new bushings for the timing gears and a couple valve guides. He had to make a jig and a boring bar for his lathe to line bore the main bearings. He even put shims in so I could take them up if they ever get loose.

Most engine parts catalogs have rings and other parts listed by size. If you know the bore and the width of each ring, the parts store should be able to match something up. Tell them to look in the back of their book for size listings. I you have no luck with them, send me an email.

Send an email to parts@kraftpower.com or call 1-800-969-6121. This company is part of Dresser
that bought the IH loader division sometime ago.

Thanks Hal. I sent them an email on Thursday and hadn't heard back yet. I was hoping someone might just have some up to date part numbers that the NAPA man can comprehend. If they can't search a pert by make and model or manufacturer's part number they are lost. The fourty foot long book that used to grace their counter contained all the information. Now those books have gone the way of the dinosaur. Thanks for the input, at least I feel like I'm headed down the right path.

Jeff, I can tell you from recent experience that you are going to have a LOT of trouble finding parts. I have just went through a total Waukesha rebuild and it was extremely difficult to find parts. The rods are babbited as you said, so unless you have them repoured they are useless if the crank is worn (mine was!). What I did was to get a set of rods from an "FC" engine which is a later vintage. It has replaceable bearings, although they are getting very hard to find. Then I tried for quite some time to find oversized mains. They are nowhere to be found. So I had to have them repoured. All told I will have a couple of grand in this rebuild due to having to scavenge so many parts to make it right. If I had it to do all over again, it would remain a static display tractor and would never run!
