Anybody have a part number for a 400D return fuel line associated with a "B" injection pump?

My manual is for an "A" type pump, and the return line must be different.

This may be a stupid question, but why can't you just run a steel braided line ( hydraulic hose) from the pump to the tank without having a "coil" in it. I have a leaking connection by the pump and that was what I was going to do until I read this thread. How important is it to have this coil in the return line?

I just wanted the thing to be original, and when I found the NewTech site, I thought it would be easy.

I'm no expert, but think the coil is only for absorbing shocks and vibration.

I actually did use NewTech web site to order the part. The one in the picture is PN 363939R11, and it's coil is turned wrong to fit the tractor. If it was turned 90 degrees into the picture, it would probably fit. I also ordered PN 363151R11, but it was for an "A" pump and also didn't fit.

I have been told by NewTech that there were only 2 pipes made, one for "A" and one for "B", but neither fit my tractor. That's why I'm trying to see if someone else has a similar setup and how the pipe is routed.

Frank,
Does your fuel tank have a 90" elbow on the return port? My parts book shows part number 363943R11, "PIPE, fuel return stand with elbow". I think it is the elbow that allows the pipe return line coil to be horizantal. Not sure if the elbow is removable as it does not have it's own part number. So that is something you can check. I have an old tank and I will check if it has an elbow.

Yes, I have the elbow on the tank. The picture I posted shows the pipe having the coil in line with the rest of the pipe, but on my pipe on the tractor, the coil is turned 90 degrees, which allows it to screw into that elbow and have the coil be horizontal.

Something is really strange about that part (363939R11) I got from NewTech. I talked to them about it and they said they compared it to the other 2 pipes they had, and they were all the same. Maybe that is why those NOS items never sold -- may have been made wrong. The bad thing about it is there is a 25% restock fee for returned items, unless it is a mistake by them.

Frank,

I looked up the fuel return line in my 400 parts book for the "B" pump and it is 363939R11. The "A" pump is 363151R11. Five years ago I needed one for a 450 Diesel and it was no longer available from CIH. Found a used one. Hope this helps.

Can you tell me one more thing? With the pipe on the tractor, is the coil on the end horizontal or vertical. Mine is horizontal and I am told it should be vertical. Thanks.

Let me explain: The nut on the end of my pipe is real buggered up, and I need to replace it with another pipe, but all I can find are coils on the vertical, and they don't fit my tractor. I am at a loss for what to do. The nut on the end has a ferrule on the end that clamps on the pipe, distorting it, so simply replacing it probably won't work, I guess.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Frank,
Looking at the parts diagram, it appears the coil is horizantal. I will verify by checking one of my 450 diesels on Monday. The used return pipe I bought for one of my 450 diesels was also leaking at the injection pump end. I put on a new ferrule and nut which pretty much stopped the leak. If the end of your pipe is bad, and you can't find the correct replacement, couldn't you just put on a new end by splicing it? This might have been a common problem on these diesels as the original owner had replaced the return pipe with a flexible hose. I wanted to get it back to original.
