Tractor will not roll backward down an incline when in first gear and the clutch is depressed. Will roll when in other foreward gears. Also will not roll foreward when in reverse and clutch is depressed. I don't believe that the brakes are locking up. This happens intermittently. Otherwise drives as it should. Is there a sticky sliding gear in the transmission that may cause this? Does anyone have any experience with this problem? Thank you.

If it is an SMTA, the TA Might need adjustment. That is a specific symptom (if not ignore comment).

I have to agree with cowman. Sounds like the clutch might be dragging just a bit.

Hadn't thought of that. The clutch and pressure plate are new, with maybe an hour of run time on them. I have the pedal adjusted for 1 1/8" of free play. Should I add a little more to the free play?

if you are going to adjust the clutch, take a little of the free play out,so it is releasing more.hth
