I've been reading the archived posts about timing marks on the F20 flywheel. Everything I've read indicates there's a "DC" somewhere on the flywheel that indicates No. 1 cyl at top dead center. I can't seem to find this DC on mine but did notice what appears to be a hole about 1/2" in diameter drilled through the flywheel. This hole shows up in the bell housing on the left side where I'm supposed to look for the "DC". Were some of them marked with a hole instead?

When you remove No1 sparkplug, hold your thumb over the hole until you feel compression, then drop that screwdriver with a big handle into the cylinder. You will need someone to crank until you feel compression. Once you reach TDC on the compression stroke your timing mark should be
there. May be covered by rust and oil/dirt.

Pull number one plug or for that matter all the plugs out of the motor take off valve cover stick a long screw driver in the plug hole turn the motor over either with the crank if you have some help or with the power coupler when you are alone, you will feel the piston either rise or fall, when it is at the top of its stroke with both valves closed it will be at t.d.c. then get into that timing hole and start cleaning and the timing marks will magically appear. I have had flywheels off the tractor and could not see them until I sand papered them real good.

It is easy to miss, Small hole, large flywheel and crud. One method is removing spark plugs 2,3,4 and turn engine with crank until compression is felt. Then continue until the dowl pin in the end of crankshaft is horizontal. If mag is properly timed and lever retarded you should hear click as DC is in view. Cleaning flywheel may be necessary.
