My 460 block has been hot-tanked. Do I need to reseal the inside like the factory did, or is that only for new cast iron?

I believe another benefit of painting the inside of the crankcase is it allows faster draining of the oil back to the pan.A rough casting sort of grabs the oil and it can turn to a sludgy matter if not allowed to flow back down constantly.

I have used red glyptal (sp) several times on the inside of engine blocks & transmission housings. There is a better product to use, but its hard to find. Its a red epoxy paint used for motor windings. You might be able to get it at a electriacal wholesaler. It will be pretty "spensive" Painting the inside of engines & trannys keeps the condensate from rusting the cast iron. JMO ken

Thanks, I'll try to find some. I'm not really concerned about rust on the inside of the block, as the oil, etc should repel any condensation unless it sits a long time (that happens). I was more concerned about oil seepage through the cast, although there is not "standing" oil inside a block.

I think you answered your own question.

If you are worried about oil seepage through the cast iron, you'll need to paint the inside of the oil galleries.

If it sits a long time, rust on the bore of the sleeves would be a greater concern.
