I wrote a few weeks ago to ask some questions about installing a factory power steering setup (Behlen unit going into the hydraulic blocks). I have the correct blocks but have since learned on this site that you need to block off one of the three orifices on the inner hydraulic control block. My question is, which hole needs to be blocked? I find one hole that is smaller than the other two. There’s one that’s about ½” diameter that’s about the same height as the smaller hole. And there’s another that’s about ½” diameter that is below the other two holes. I believe that it’s the lower ½” hole but want to be sure before I start cutting threads. Also, my plan is to use a ¼” pipe plug and to cut threads into the inner block. The plug would go on the LH side of the block (toward the reservoir tower). I would then use lock-tite to keep the plug from threading out. I thought I’d do this tomorrow but I just wanted to check with you guys to make sure I’m doing the right thing. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes the lower hole between control valve and reservoir tower, not between priority valve and tower. When factory plug not available I tap and plug the tower with a recessed head plug .I guess would work on other side but make sure o ring can work back between housings or it will leak unless both sides are pluged.Make sure all metal cuttings are removed. You are using the control valve with one outlet hole in center toward front
with short steel line to priority valve?

Dave...yes, my control valve has an outlet hole from the front of the unit with a line that goes to the priority valve. I remember that you mentioned tapping the tower in an earlier post but I thought that tapping the valve would help keep metal out of the oil. I'd have a better chance of blowing all cuttings out while the valve was out of the tractor. I hadn't considered the o-ring. I'll check to make sure that I don't damage the seat for the o-ring before making the cut. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again to all!

It's the lower port and it has to go on the inside. The set up I bought for my 350 had the little plug with the inside reomte. Holler at Doug Slater. He helped me and has tackled this installation before from the sounds of it.

Where could I get that diagram plus identification of the parts? The manuals I got from Binder doesn't show the priority valve, but talks about it. Thanks.

Are your showing the priority valve part of the safety/regulator valve? Are those the items on the left of the diagram?

Troy, Looked in my 400 parts book. It shows that for a power steering tractor the inner hydra-touch valve is a "365983R91" and non power steering is a "364981R91". In the power steering section it shows the "365983" valve with a "364880R1" plug (lift circuit block). The picture seems to indicate it goes in the lower hole toward the front of the tractor. But not clear if you can modify a non power steeing valve to use this plug. Email me if you have more questions. Hope this helps.

Troy, One more thing, the parts book picture shows the plug on right side of the valve, NOT the side toward the reservoir tower. But maybe someone else can verify this who has worked on these valves.
