Had a new one for me this week, a 3588 came in for a clutch that wouldn't release so I assumed that it was the release bearing or the fingers on the PPA. When I split it, it looked like it was a week old so I checked the linkage and that was ok. When I removed the clutch and pressure plate I found the cast plate of the pressure plate was broke into 2 seperate pieces. One of the other mechanics said that he seen one break a long time ago in an 806 and it looked like a lock washer for the way it broke. Has anyone else come across this oddity?

When I tore my 1466 apart last winter, I found the same thing. The face of the P. plate was split in two places across from each other The previous owner used the tractor on the blower for the silo, so I think that may be what did it. also snaped the live power shaft that hooks into the P. plate. I took pictures, I'll see if I can find them!

Years ago I seen it happen on a 403 combine three times in one harvest season. When we were able to trace down the reason why it turned out to be high RPM clutch disengagement. After the owner had a talk with his operator and instructed him to throtle down before disengageing the clutch there were no more shattered pressure plates.

I even blew a Shaiffer dual disc on my 61 ford that came thru the scatter sheild that was fun .

I'll bet he impressed himself more than the girls. The MX Magnums have a small drive shaft from the engine to the transmission and they have greaseless u-joints in them. We are seeing problems with this now. Starts out with a bad vibration and if not taken care of right away the cross will break and send the shaft on a violent spree in front of the cab under the air cleaner. In this process when the hyd's stop the tractor comes to an immediate halt and if your going somewhat fast you will kiss the windshield if you don't have the seatbelt on. This did happen to one of our customers and I guess it'll wake you up.
