I sent the clutch & pressure plate for this 1466 to Clutch & Joint to have it checked out. The clutch only had about 500 hours on it but I thought while it was already out get it checked. They have had it over a month . I called them today & they said they just got it done and the bill is almost 500.00 !! I called my dealer & they told me I could buy a rebuilt clutch from them with core charge for 274.00. Do I just eat it and pay Clutch & Joint or tell them to keep it & buy from my dealer.I'd feel bad leaving them hang with it but they don't mind sticking it to me. What does everyone think?

I would tell them up front that they are screwen ya and since i have a big mouth i would tell everybody and ask them if they would like you to bring them a large box of salt and pepper so they can enjoy eating it . Just because they think they got ya over a barrel . When i started fixen tractors i did a lot of shoppen for may suppliers, I tryed to do it local but the local guys were the same way tryen to stick it to you even one local nut and bolt house tryed yea maybe i only spent around 1500 a year on fastners if i would have stayed with them it would have been 3 grand a year and wireing supplys ended up buying from a place out of Cleveland and saved over 75% from local.Engine parts came from two places one out of ohio and one out of Indy.

Thanks for the advice.I'm going to think on it & call them Monday. I pretty sure I'll let them think I will stick them with it, after I explain what I can get one from a dealer for.Than I'll point out they I only ask them to check it out. But in the end I'll guess I'll pay what they say

Larry. Dont do that.
If all you asked them to do was check it out. Then they forgot about it until you called.
So then they forgot what you asked for. So they rebuild it.
Let them eat it. Just say Hey I never authorized you to rebuild it. I just wanted you to check it out and let me know if it was still good.

I think there was miss comunication on both you guys. But that shouldnt cost you $500.

After having it for a month then wanting 500 sounds live a severe case of miss comunication somewhere. I mean didnt someone quote a price or no discussion at all.

Goes like that some times. You try to be nice and help the local guys out and the shaft you for your trouble.

I might pay the bill but I would sure ask them why it was so high. They may have made a mistake.
I would also tell them the price of a rebuilt for other company to see what they have for reasoning.

I believe they made three mistakes and you can only make one (paying them full amount they ask).

They did not write down your request.
They were not prompt.
They repaired a device for more than replacement value of a common item.

Take a quote or Web printout of the prices and demand an adjustment to that level.

If you don't, the rest of the public will suffer the same abuse, and you will feel bitter.

My opinion,

JimN
