I recently bought my first tractor - IH574 and I am very happy with it. I did not recieve an owners manuel with it, and being a newbie, I have a couple of questions. My differental locking pedal, I believe, is on the right hand side, lower platform. When I push it in, it will not come back up. Is there a trick or am I missing something, or is it just sticking? I have to pry it up. Also, in the middle, lower, below the seat is a handle. What is this for, It also will not move up or down very easy. Is it also sticking? Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks Guys. I was on level hard ground. Tapped my brakes and did everything I could think of. I will try to loosen up the linkage with oil and hopefully that will loosen it. I was wondering before I went any further if there was something I was missing. That has seemed to be the only problem so far

The differential lock is designed to kick out 3 ways. If you push it down and the wheels are getting uneven traction, it will stay locked on until you tap either steering brake, or depress the engine clutch. However, if you are on solid ground, and the wheels are getting even traction, the pedal will pop back up on its own, in other words, it will not lock down at all. It is a common problem for the linkage to get rusty right where it enters the differential housing. Get your favorite penetrating lubricant and spray up every moving part of the linkage as well as where it enters the case. Then, after it is loose, oil it occasionally or use it every once in a while to keep it limber. I believe the little handle adjusts the position of the seat, adjusting your reach to the pedals. I have never adjusted ours, as it has a cab that takes up most of the adjustment room. I think you need to move the lever and tilt the seat forward or back to get it to move in its notched track. Hope this helps.

As Gary said, applying the left brake while rolling and then the right brake should release the diff lock. As long as there is tension in the differential, it won"t pop back up. Don"t pry it up, it is spring loaded and will come up when it is released. If it just won"t come up, try jacking up one of the rear wheels and rocking it back and forth. If it still doesn"t pop up, then you have a problem.
Don"t know about the other lever- I"d have to know more about it.

As for the diff lock does it release when you tap one of the brakes. Some tractors are designed to work this way to release the diff lock.
