I am looking at a Farmall Super MTA that is in poor condition and need to know what is a fair price
The sheetmetal is shot except for the gas tank, the seat is rusted off, no battery box, air cleaner is smashed, the gauges are broken, tach shows 9500Hrs, tires are bad, hich support is welded, has car alternator, Radiator holds antifreeze but is rough, steering wheel is shot, and the serial number tag is long gone, has been sitting outside for 10 years +

On the good side the owner says it ran fine 5 years ago,TA and PTO worked, the engine will turn a little by hand
Owner wants $1200 for the tractor
Any one have an opinion on this price

I just paid $1500 for a nice running Super M with good paint, tires, no noise, no smoke, and working 12 volt system.

2 ways to look at it. If your going to fix up and want nice sheet metal, seat and battery box.Unless you find some lucky buys you will have 800 to 1100 or so in grill, hood, battery box, seat and frame. Then you will have a SMTA without tires, serial # and engine drivetrain condition unknown.Or if tractor has all correct cast code dates on everything and engine block isn't cracked broken or rusted real bad, that tractor can be parted out for more than 1200.Hauling cost would half to figure in though.

Have to see some pics to be sure, but if it were me I would see how low I could get him and buy it.
Then I would make a project out of finding the parts used and on the cheap. Spend a few years putting it back in shape. Might be a diamond in the rough. These old Farmalls are pretty tough.

Dave has the right idea,....take lots of pictures of it....check it over as close as you can, get the price as low as you can,buy it ..... bring it home and make a list of things you need.....

get another project and let this one set and collect parts as they come by....figure on this one being your next project....

Do not know what it is worth but could find everything you listed as being bad (except hood) tomorrow for $1000 or less. Would be good used tires. Would be afraid of engine if it has sat out that long though.

From your description it sounds like it should be in pieces. Oh, that sounds high, I'd say shoot him $500, you will probably have $5000 in it when it is done, fully restored to parade condition their about $6000 approx.

If it's in that rough of shape, and hasn't run in 5 years, I'd be offering $400 or $500 tops..... ..a little more than scrap If seller can make it run for u, double that

Ya $500 would be a good price but he not going to part with it for less than $1200 I just thought that with the recent popularity of the SMTA that this might be a resonable price?

It's a piece of junk, you have to replace everything on it, and then you can't document the serial #, probably more important for SMTA's than any other letter series. It is simply not worth more than $500.
