I recently bid on an IH 140 tractor on Ebay. Today, I received a second chance offer by Email. I thought it was strange, as the offer was not from the orginal seller. Stupidly, I resonded as requested but did not give any info except my Ebay ID. This offer was also in my Ebay messages. I responded to the Ebay ID that made the offer and got a response that this was crap. Then I send a message to the seller of the tractor and he responded that it was a fraud and that he was delivering the tractor to the original high bidder. Nothing is safe anymore!!! I hope nothing more comes of it, but how did someone get into anothers ebay stuff and send messages??

Just click on Bid History and you have your answer. This is only after the auction is over. I have gotten a couple of these too. Jeffcat

I get several a month. If I don"t recognize the sender or it seems strange I won"t even open it for fear it might contain spyware. Got to be careful these days.

No matter how good and useful something is there is always bad people to misuse it. You just have to be careful on e-bay and the rest of the internet.

Your answer is in your own words. "I made the mistake of responding". There is a truth meter located behing your navel. If all is good, it is quiet. When things are not right that truth button will naw at your stomach.
Here is a quote from, in my opinion, one of the greatest Americans of all time, John Adams, that I have in large print on my peg board and I try very hard to live by:
" Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence." - John Adams

This is getting bad. Since the first of the year, I"ve received 4 e-mails that are scams. Three of them said an additional e-mail address had been added to my PayPal profile and if that was wrong, I should click on a link to correct it. The other one appeared to be from the E-Bay message center, and a member was supposedly sending me a question. He was asking whether I accepted PayPal, because, "if not, the deal is off." I have never sold anything on E-Bay, I"m just a buyer. I didn"t respond to any of these, but I sent copies to: spoof@paypal.com and spoof@ebay.com .

Also, have you noticed all of the obvious scams showing up in E-Bay tractors? They"re selling 1 or 2 year old diesel tractors with loaders and/or back hoes with ridiculously low Buy-It-Now prices. They state, "Don"t use the "send seller a message" feature "cause their mailbox doesn"t work"". They say, "e-mail me at this address to get put on the approved bidders list".

Bottom line, Be careful! Rusty is right. Don"t respond to any e-mail--go into your "My E-Bay Account" and check for the message there!

Yes, I won't be responding to anymore E bay E mails except through Ebay messages. However, this message was also in my Ebay messages. How do you explain that!! The only thing I can figure is that the quy had hacked into the other parties Ebay info. Fortunately, I gave the guy nothing but my Ebay handle which I am now going to change.

Anytime I recieve an e mail that appears to be from eBay, I do not respond until I have logged into "my eBay" and verified the message is there also. If the message is not in "my eBay", consider it a scam, and do not reply.
