The last two evenings I helped a friend of mine put new brake seals and brakes on his 560. I noticed both brake drums were cracked from the center out to the rubber boot were the rod comes out. Is this fairly common? The brakes were packed full of oil, but the drums did not look like they had ever been too hot.

Had a heck of a time getting the cast flange back in the transmission housing with the new O-ring installed. It sure looked like something I would normally break ;)

That was a common fault with all but the late 560's the ----- R2 brake covers used to break. I replaced one on the 560 I had. The new ----- R3 cover seemed to work fine and had more meat in it. The brake covers are expensive though.

Pressure from effort to stop with wet brakes may have caused it??
or sudden locking pressures from grabbing brakes when they are just getting oily.
Just a guess,
