A neighbor is working on my 560D (was blowing bubbles in the radiator). He called tonight to say the gasket was gone, but also that a previous owner had done a repair on a crack in the head, and that repair had a new crack leading off it.

So... where do I get a head (so to speak)?

Also, he says the cylinders have almost no crosshatching left. He didn't say I had to, but I'm guessing its time for new sleeves, rings, ... Any favorite kits? Anything to avoid?

Thanks in advance - Sam.

Sam,

I know for a fact that a cracked sleeve can also cause bubbling in the radiator. If it were may tractor, I would put in a whole new kit, in addition to getting the block deck checked for warpage and having a machine shop go through the head. Some cracks in a head are not a problem and some are. An experienced machinist could advise you properly.

Sam,

Be careful. That was the 560D's weak point.

I remember a 560 that had four heads in it's first 5 years of life. Check the block for warpage before you get out your checkbook.

Sam, call me in the morning around 9 am EST at 740-350-1296. I know of a place to call for head purchases and or repairs.
