It's setting in my back yard but now the questions surface. Mitchissippi it only has 1 speed forward and 1 in reverse. What the deal is? Could it have been a cotton tractor? Thanks guys for your patience and thanks for all your support. I am going to have a lot of questions later on. Please have more patience as this thing needs a lot of work.

A high drum cotton picker tractor was set up so that it was driven in reverse directuin (front wheel behind) it had 5 speeds forward and one reverse.

Serial number will not tell for sure whether you have cotton picker tractor as a lot of them were converted by dealer from regular tractor. This is from first hand experience. Dad owned several one row pickers and all but one were dealer conversions. If it was high drum picker tractor brake and clutch pedal will have about 1/2 inch hole in shaft about 4 inches down from foot pad. These were for rods from remote operators platform.

The IH letter code for a tractor with the high drum cotton picker attachment was F. 99% were converted by dealer when it came time to harvest, then put back in winter and early spring. This info coming from my father, drove them from mid-forties until after college he worked for Harvester Co. from late 50"s to late 70"s just south of Memphis.

You are correct about the clutch pedal, also the flanged axle housings are a dead give-away.

Our first picker was bought new in 1956 and was mounted on 1944 M that we had used for years. Dad pulled picker off one time and used tractot to make crop after that he decided that was more trouble than it was worth and never pulled another one off.

What is the serial number with the letter codes.
If it has an F after the serial number it is a SM with high-drum cotton picker attachment.

If it has SMV before the serial number it is a high crop.

An MV has a wide front, a cotton picker tractor has a single front. Sounds like your shifter forks/rails are out of line.
