We are wanting to sell an old Farmall McCormick
tractor that has been handed down from my Great Grandfather to my father to me...(the daughter).
We need something more practical for our land.
I am trying to find out what I can get for it.
I know its a 50 something model. It says Farmall McCormick with an H and a cirlce around it. It has the metal wheels but think they were added to it later....can anyone help tell me what this model and year would be?

why not put a live hyd pump from a super H on this tractor it will run a frountend loader and be alot less money than a new tractor. if you need sources to find a live pump email me i can send some to you

So what's wrong with some stuff [equiptment ] sitting around? When I look around our place & see all the old equiptment that our Grandparents & Parents used & we are still using, it's about as close as you can get to having them back by your side. It gives me a real comfortable feeling. They made a living by running & using that "stuff" & it deserves a place in your history also.

What do you want to do that the H will not do ?

Without live hydraulics, they are not very handy with a loader, and they are not the best for mowing the lawn under trees. If you put rubber tires on it, it would be a lot more useful for just about anything else.

You might have guessed by now that this is not the best place to come looking for advice on selling a tractor that has been in your family for 60 some years and several generations.

The practical side is that it may not make much of a down payment on a new tractor. Once it is gone a part of your family's history will be lost.

If there is not a serial number plate on the clutch housing (left side looking forward, behind the motor, under the air cleaner), the engine has a serial number on the right side, at the front, about 2/3 of the way up. The manual shows the engine serial number at the same level but between the distributor cap and the oil filter.

You can post pictures in the 'Galleries' section in the left hand column on this page.

More than likely, it's a 40-something, not a 50-something. Hs were made all through the 40's, but only up to 1953 in the '50s. Especially, considering the steel wheels. My guess is 1942-1945 to narrow it down some, but you'll need the serial number off the shiny plate on the side of the transmission near the starter motor to get an exact date.

There were nearly 300,000 Farmall Hs made over 14 years (1939-1953), so the tractor isn't particularly rare or valuable. Sorry, but your hopes of having a rare gem that would pay for a fancy new John Deere compact tractor with loader, backhoe, and belly mower are completely gone... It's worth anywhere from $300 to $1500 depending on its condition and what options are installed. The Farmall H is just too common a tractor...

Well I was just making sure....didnt think it was worth much, but hoped it would at least make a down pmt on a tractor with a front end loader ..ect

Vegetable farmers, such as my dad, actually bought narrow steel wheels and installed them when cultivating in narrow rows, back to tires for tillage. I spent many hours on one. Less compaction, used at least into the 60's, so they weren't used only because of the WWII rubber shortage. Pretty commonplace on IH, JD, Ford, Ferguson tractors of that era. IH steel was available for a long time.

Shelly.
I would recomend that you do not sell the H.
I know you want a different tractor that is more useful. There are indeed quite a few that would be more useful than a H.
H's are not worth a great deal. They range from $500 to $2500 depending on condition and equipment. If its a super H with live hydralics it maybe worth quite a bit more.
No price though can replace the history that tractor has with your family.
I know I would give 5 grand in a heart beat to have my Grand Fathers old AC WD45.
just some thing to concider. You may not want it, but maybe some one else in the family does.

The circle with the H in it tells you the model it is, its an H. Year could be who knows with out the serial numbers.
