When I put the new rear main oil seal in my 300. It was the 1st one I had ever done.
That new seal looked a little long so I trimmed a bit off to make it fit.
Guess where I have oil drippin?
Dummy me.
I now know it get compresses when you tighten the halfs back together.
Who ever it was that said ignorance was bliss. Didnt see my oil puddle.

The neighbor down the road always said "If it doesn't leak more than 5 gallons a day, it doesn't need fixed". Oil leaks can be aggravating. Good luck.

Kelly You should not have cut any off, the other thing what where the aluminum plates like. Many times they are warped and need replaced. I always put the felt in dry then oil other wise they swell and are harder to install.

"Kelly You should not have cut any off"
Yup.....ya I sure did.
I remeber looking at it and thinking. " There is no way that big peice of felt is going to fit that."
After I learned on my 400 that the 2 cap screws that hold the 2 halfs together. Draw that felt in nice and tight around the shaft.
Just on here to pay penance and knock my self in the head. I could have easly fixed this before I put the motor back on my 300. Didnt even dawn on me.

Kelly them old rope seals should be soaked in oil for atleast a half a day before they are installed and then ya sorta roll them in if ya don"t have the tool to drive them into place . The tool looks like a half moon with a drive handel on it to form it to the saddel then there is vary littel to trim off and a there must be a littel to stick out on both the cap and block to make the seal .

Then why does the oil spots spell Dummy in the snow if left in one spot.
Oh well. After splitting my 400 and my 706. Splitting my 300 will be like a tinker toy now.

Sounds like your 300 must be quite talented, none of my tractors know how to spell, but most of them still insist on marking their territory.
