I have just got an MD running that has sat for a few years. We sent the pump to Central Inj and had the injectors checked locally. The tractor has a dead cylinder #3. I did a compression test via spark plugs and those are good. I switched injectors around and it is still #3. Any ideas?

If you have good compression through the spark plug, that would seem to indicate that there is a problem with the "third" valve which is the decompression valve. You can pull the valve cover and check to see if it is stuck, or not set properly so that it is not closed when in diesel. If stuck, you can probably free it up with some penetrant and working the valve. If not, looks like you will have to pull the head to fix it.

Could be as Janicholson says and or stuck rings on that piston. Where I don't agree with him is the PB blast which I have found to be a waste of good money. I would fill that cylinder with tranny fluid and let it sit a day or 2 then spin it over with the plug out to clear the cylinder and see what happens. Another problem with them is some times if they where shut down and the person didn't put the lever back in to the diesel side the valve would warp and then you would need to do a valve job to fix the problem.

The most common issue is a stuck third valve. The way to check is to pull the valve cover and look.
Some PB blaster on the stem, and judicious tapping of the tip may just loosen it up W/O removing the head. Gooooo d luck,
