826D (D358) Oil Filter Question

I have a persistent leak at my recently changed oil filter (using a Wix filter) on my fairly-new-to-me 826. What troubles me is that the surface upon which the oil filter seal rides has a deep groove. It looks like it was made there for an o-ring and the seal for the filter fits right in there. Is this groove a normal characteristic or should it be a flat surface? The old filter did not leak before (at least I don't think it did), but the housing did in a major way at the oil line o-rings, all of which which I replaced as well as the gasket where it mounts to the block. Can someone with D350 experience tell me what the oil fitler seal surface is suppose to look like? It could also be the filter, but it's hard to tell. I want to get back into the problem knowing what things are supposed to be like.

We have 2 826's , the problem is not the oil filter, Just above the filter there is a plug with a copper washer, If you remove the filter you can see the plug better, Ours was leaking soo bad and CaseIh didnt have one in stock, I went to the auto store and got a fiber oil pan plug gasket (thats all they had the same size) It worked for about a week,

If that's a Wix filter 51768 the gasket surface on the filter should seal the filter from leaking.

You should clean the surface where the filter is installed and apply a light coating of oil to the gasket on the filter. Have you tried to tighten the filter? You usually do not have a problem with a full flow filter leaking. Make sure the old gasket from old filter isn't sticking to the surface of the filter housing. Hal

Yep, it's the 51768 and I applied oil to the seal. I went back and re-
tightened the filter a couple of times and it's now tighter than it ought to be but still leaks. Are you saying the groove is normal? If so, then I may have a bad filter. I'd really hard to tell exactly where the leak is.

I think I would get another filter and try it, this one could be defective. Hal
