Cowman how many groundhog predictors are there? Puxahaunty Phil is probably most recognized in the US east. Here in Ontario we have "Wiarton Willy"..There must be more hogs than that..... .I don't think Wiarton Willy saw his shadow today, nice mild day here, snow pretty much all gone, great winter so far, haven't had to blow snow in over a month..... .Mike in Exeter Ontario

Happy Grounghog Day to you Cowman, I have only had my heavy coat on a couple of times this winter, in the middle of the night that was in DEC. We are very dry here in Southwest MO. and I hope we are not looking at a three year drouth like the 1950's which I remember well, or the thirty's which I wasn't here yet. Jim

A radio personality (in Minnesota where they should know better) stated that he would like to see an alligator in the groundhog's hole to (in his words) liven things up when the arm went in to get "him" out. I don't believe there is an excitement enhancer in that idea. Marmots/groundhogs/woodchucks etal. have both an attitude, and teeth that would shread as well as a DR. chipper. I think Pucksataunney (sp) Phill is a bit sedated.

Cowman: And a happy one it is, are you guarenteing the second half will be as great as the first half. After a few little mean days in Dec., we've had almost shirt sleeve weather here in SW ON. I say almost, but when the percipitation runs away, I can sit by the fireside in my shirt sleeves.

And just to think, a few short months ago those oil barons had their sights set on me along with many others. In my case, this old 2,200 sq ft house, on top of a hill, where we can see every direction for at least 3 miles. Whopeeeee.

Hi Hugh, It's been that mild here in MD too. Sure hope the fruit trees aren't starting to shoots buds. It's suppose to be in the 30's next week for highs. My rhubarb and butterfly bush show signs of spring.

I've hauled away probably 20 groundhogs since I moved here 38 years ago. Someone told they would return like a homing pigeon. I don't think so, I even took some to Aberdeen Proving Ground. I use that Have-a-Heart trap. They like my garden. Hal

Same here in SW Ia. Field work that usually doesn't start until March is already done. I look for the planters to start rolling anytime now.
