Tried out my H with the 9 speed tranny. Works good...belt pulley works good, no noise...PTO works good, no noise. No water in the rearend. I need to repair the shifting cable for the 9 speed, and do a lot of cleaning. The only major problem is what is in the rearend and steering gear box. It looks like hot roofing tar, and thicker than 90#. Never seen anything this nasty in a gearbox before. I'm glad I happened on to this H before it got sent to china. It's a good old tractor.

I found the same stuff in the front wheel hub on a H that I am reworking. I took off that hub last night so I could paint it and found the most disgusting black slome that stuck like spider webs I sure wish I had left it on the bolster.

Glad things are looking good. My experience from installing a used nine speed in my Farmall M is that the shifting cable has to be stiff and sturdy. I had a speedometer shop built one but it was too weak and had to have a more stiff one built. Then it worked fine. Another bit of experience, my dad always put axle greese in the H and M steering cases instead of oil. Just a couple of thoughts.
