I was wondering if I can take the PTO angle gear box off and cover the hole with a plate, or is there a shaft or a gear that sticks out to far for a plate to seat? I would like to lower the pivot point for the top link, but the gearbox is in the way. I know I will never use the pulley for anything anyway. Thanks, Nat

Make sure you remove any shim plates that might have been installed between the angle gear attachment and the transmission housing. Leak City, otherwise.

Nat: The right angled belt pulley gear box will separate from the pto. The shaft that drives the belt pulley will protrude about 3/4". There is a factory cover to replace the pulley gear box. It has a bubble in the middle to allow for that protruding shaft. No bearing involved here for shaft.

If I were you, I would remove the pulley. I forget the exact amount that shaft protrudes. Using 1" and 1/2" plate you can fabricate a cover that will double as your top link attachment. You take the pulley gear box off, there will be a spider gear on that protruding shaft, remove that as it should go with the pulley. You will then clearly see how to fabricate as I indicated.

Put that spider gear and shims that come off with pulley gear box. Guys putting Woods mowers on offsets will pay good money for that.

My mind sliped you can remove the pully box. I forgot that my 100 came from factory like that. with the block off plate. There are 2 holes in the plate but I think they would be much to light to attach a top link to. Andrew

Andrew: 4 - 1/2" bolts, 2 top and 2 bottom. I know of a couple that have going for years that way.

No I wasnt tinking about those I was thinking about the holes that are on the plate itself. I think there for a sheild. I know the bolts your talking about and there good to use for a top link point. Andrew

Andrew: Ahha, that explains it. My thoughts were to not use the cover from IH, but rather shape a section of 1" plate size of that cover, drill the 4 - 1/2" holes, then drill a 1.5" hole for the shaft to protrude into. Make a second 1/2" plate same shape and just the 4 matching 1/2" holes. This 1/2" plate will cover the 1.5" hole. Then weld the two plates together. Then weld tabs centered for hitching top link. This makes a real neat job, or at least the ones I've seen did.

Nat, are you talking about the hole thing or just the shaft. I looked at my Super C and I think you have to pull everything off if you want to take off the gear box. This would include the regular PTO also. If you want to remove it all you have to do is pull the whole thing off and put a plate over it. Alot of guys do it when they pull. Andrew
