well i split the 986 the other day and found an oil leak coming from the transmission ipto shaft seal. so i cleaned the flywheel, clutch disk and pressure plate the best i could with brake cleaner. and also put shorter bolts in the pressure plate and flywheel. I put it all back together and adjusted the freeplay. Started it up and held on the brakes and put it in high 4th and it slipped for a couple sec then grabbed and wanted to stall the tractor. hooked it up to the dump truck and tryed pulling that in low 4th with a rolling start it pulled it then started slipping. The cab mounts seem to be alright. i got told that the hy-capapcity pressure plates started coming with blocks of wood in there some place. i don't ever recall takiing them out. Can it be the T/A also and how do i check it? i've heard of blowing air in the T/A tubes but i don't recall what tube air should come out of. Any suggetions and help would be appreciated thanks. Spencer

At work when we get a tractor in that has oil in the clutch, it gets replaced no matter what, cause oil is hard to get out of the pads and the aggrivation of doing it over is not worth it. The blocks you mentioned would be under the release fingers were they pivot. If they aren't blocks then they would have small nuts in there instead. I also hope that when you replaced the seal in the pto gear that it was put in the right way and that you aren't getting more oil dumped into the clutch.

And why did you put shorter bolts in for what reason there is none that i can think of . And i know that you do not that the stuff to run a pressure check on the MCV and T/A and did you replace the seals on the IDPTO input along with a new bearing . And did you check the T/A shift cable and make sure that you have full up travel along with full down travel and did you set the dump valve and trans brake .

if it is the ta it will slip only on the low side. if it slips on the high side it's probably the clutch
