I just got a belt pulley for my Super C. I need to know how to determine how much shim to use to properly set up the gear contact. Thanks to Gene Bender for his response on this last week. This belt pulley will be used so I need to get it right.

Chris: I looked at this earlier, at that time I couldn't think what to use. I had done this on a SA in the past, just drew a blank on what to use. Jim's idea on the beer can is great. One of the perrils of never drinking beer in favour of rum.

Chris, while I'm on here, there was an old guy in my home town, known for his outragous stories. Now we know he was never more than a 100 miles from the Atlantic Ocean in his life. We also know that everything is biggest in Texas, but according to Walace, Texas has nothing on the Pacific Northwest. Walace claimed he worked as a cooks helper in a lumber camp in Oregon. They waited tables with motorcycles equiped with side cars, it took a half barrel of flour to thicken the gravey and a full barrel to make bread everyday. A man went missing in the sawmill and 3 days later they found him floating in the sight tube on the end of the boiler.

Now that should hold the Texans until we get a rope.

Unless someone comes up with the specification from the book, I would use .002-.004" backlash when engaged a piece of doubled over beer can will measure it, don,t loose the beer can piece, wire it to prevent dropping it. It should be able to turn easily past the shim.

Thanks Janicholson, but in respect to Hugh, is that a Canadian beer can or an American beer can?

Composite should be about ~003-.004, and one thickness between one tooth and the mating tooth, not both sides of one tooth.
