I was wondering if there"s any criteria on the tractor one takes beside it being an IH product. I"ve never been to one of these shows and my freind and I want to take his 560 puller and my SM but mine is in its work clothes, so to speak. It"s not real bad but it"s a 8 yr old 50 buck rattle can paint job. I"m going to be doing some work on the wheels but I can"t drop a lot of money on it now. I had a couple local people tell me that they won"t let me in without a top-drawer paint job but it seems to me that they would let anyone with a decent looking machine in. Am I right or would I be burning a lot of gas for nothing hauling itin? thanks

As Co-Chair of the show I can tell you without a doubt that there are absolutely no criteria for displaying tractors other that it needs to be IHC built. I don't know who told you otherwise, but they are flat out wrong. As one responder said, the tractors that usually receive the most attention are the farm field fresh ones. The tractors I am personally displaying are not restored to "concours" level. In fact, I don't have any that are restored like that. When the club first started in 1990, that was one of the things talked about, that we would never become like the John Deere shows that only allowed invited tractors. How arrogant to do that! Please bring anything you can and enjoy the show!

Sounds like you were out to make a normal guy's show then. We're not sure we'll have the time to haul in but if not we'll at least show up. I'm hoping we can make it though because we know we can just about afford the gas to go the 180 miles or so to mansfeild. thanks

Hey, maybe we can set up a caravan over to mid-ohio racetrack and make some hot laps with our tractors. How fast would a 560 be with 18.4-38's running 3200 engine rpm?

scotc, I have only been to one Red Power Roundup. That was in Bloomsburg, Pa and there were plenty of tractors in their work clothes. If you want to bring it, load it up and go. Just because a tractor has mud on its tires, doesnt mean no one is interested in looking at it. The work tractors got plenty of attention!!!

That was my thought also Backus, about not wanting to go to a show that only allows concourse resto's. I'm debating hauling in my old corn sheller if we can manage to haul in but it would catch a lot of wind and my truck's little 318 is gonna have enough trouble towing a trailer of weights in. Once I get the narrowfront on the SM and put it on a diet my freind can haul it on his gooseneck with his 560 and I can haul his weights. What kind of things do they have going on there? Any pulls or parades or anything like that? We are planning to get there for at least one day but I'd really like to bring my tractor and I have to talk him into going to get it there. My (skidsteer) trailer is too narrow and even if it wasn't it's still too light. As it sets I can't get under 7100 pounds with me on the tractor.

just an fyi for anyone going through PA for the roundup, they are starting to crack down on deisel pickups. Over 10K gvw is supposed to cross scales (I'll try to find more info on that), any stacks must have heat sheilds, and exhaust and noise emmission equipment that it left the factory with must be in place or replaced with a suitable alternative, and no cut-outs to bypass mufflers. Dang smog-nazis moved into harrisburg 2 years ago now they are just getting worse. Whenever I think much about it western NE or WY just keep sounding better and better.

Does that mean when I go to visit my dad in PA that I can't drive my Hemi with straight pipes? Yeah, Nebraska is the best!

They're craCKING DOWN ON DEISELS. HOW MUCH THEY CAN DO TO someone out of State I don't know. I ran an 85 with a 318 with nothing past the y-pipe for years so you could get away with it probably, depends on where you're going, if they have noise ordinances. Too many guys running pipes on deisels with jake brakes and using the jakes all the time. wouldn't happen to be NW PA would he?

Scot, you ever make it to the Saegartown Summer Show (Pioneer Gas and Steam)? You gotta talk the Cowman into visiting his dad in July! It"s a pretty nice show Cowman! I"m in Fairview, just west of Erie. Cowman, would ya happen to remember the Triscuit Farm in Corry? They called it "Beacon Acres"? ....Stan

Oh yeah, we bought our Allis and Papec stuff from Ray Wiggers in Union City and Gallup & Ten Haken were still in the corner storefront downtown Clymer. Was it Kimmy's that had Oliver? Remember Carl Damcotts Shop? I worked for Carl when I was in High School. John Wiggers sold NewHolland & Case in North Clymer, and Panama had both Ford & Ferguson dealers.

Wiggers are up on rte 89 s of 6, gallups are still in clymer. When sid kuhn"s boys took over cnh told them they had to redo the bldg., expand, basically everything the bank told us to do wrong, they closed shop and gallup"s moved from the north side of town where the old deere dealer was to sid kuhn"s. I think you may be pre-dating me on some of this. Yes I"ve been to the pioneer show it"s about 4 miles south from the house, we still hold the lease on 200 acres between there and meadville. Had 4 peices there when they featured ihc last.

I"ve been to several RPRU and I agree with Rusty- there are machines in all conditions. It is true that there are quite a few Concours type paint jobs, but the show that doesn"t allow a tractor in without a shiny paint job is a show I don"t need to go to.

Paul,

Dumb question time. What is meant by a "Concours-type" paint job? I assume it means first-class, but what is the derivation?

Talk to you again in a couple of weeks. Susie and I are off to Scotland tomorrow (yes, that country above England). Our daughter lives there and we're going to start planning for her mid-July wedding to a Scotsman. He's a sword maker!

Thanks in advance.

David

Hello again David,
I am also interested in old cars and trucks and the like, and in that world there is a car show called Concours. I really don"t know much about it, but it is judged and only the very best get a reasonable score. I believe it"s more for the Duesenburg, Rolls Royce, Packard, Cadillac, Ferrari type cars that are so over-
restored, it"s ridiculous. In the judging, things like the correct plating on the bolt heads, and having all the screw slots turned the same direction are important.
Have a nice time in Scotland. Are you driving there? LOL!
Paul

I've only been to one of the red power round-ups, and there were just as many if not more tractors in work clothes as there were with ridiculously high priced paint jobs. In fact, the fresh out of the field tractors were drawing most of the attention.
