about six weeks ago i posted about a M that I bought and was nocking bad well yesterday I pulled the head and pan to find half a pistion skirt in the pan then I pulled one berring cap to see what year it was overhauled: 1974 and I noticed the berrings were .030 over so If the crank is not true is it no good? seems someone told me that .030 was the max on the crank. Thanks for any help. Justin

Cranks for the M and H tractors are not a high demand item and go pretty cheap. Call Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch he has them.

When I rebuilt my 'C', the crank had been turned down .030. A friend of mine works at a well known machine shop in Hastings,Ne. and he polished the crank for me in leu of turning it any further. He said it was still in tolerance but just barely, and at 1500 max RPM the only thing I may notice would be a little less oil pressure. The oil pressure is fine on mine,This may be an option for you. John.

thanks guys, I pulled the pistions out today and found several broken rings. I put the head and pan back on because I want to wait untill I can offord to do a good job of it and put every thing in new so it is in good shape and dont need to worry about it. Our tractors all get used so no sense in a cheap cobble job in my opinion, Ill let ya know when I start on this again I want to finish my 560 first. Justin

Most of the time a crank can be built up and then turned back down to what it was when new. Most good machine shops can do that.

I would have an auto machine shop to measure that crankshaft to see if it's still usable. It may still be within .030" undersize bearings. They can determine if the crank is still true too. Hal
