Can anyone tell me, on the front right side of engine is a raised pad. Stamped into it is: FBH 24 O or D ?? Right rear of engine in raised casting numbers is 6695 DA or OA. Is this truly a 350 engine ??? Thanks

Not sure what you have. The prefix for H engines (C152) is FBHM, it should have at least 3 digits, up to 6. The C175 (350) will have the serial stamped above the crankcase breather, and should have C175 cast into the block in about the same location. Your casting number of 6695DA is IH's old system, not in use when the 350 was produced. My H parts manual has the casting number as 6937, there there could have been an earlier version.

Are you sure about that ?

Guy Fay's data book says IH went the "R" system in 1945. But, in an earlier paragraph he says the "D" codes were used into the 50's. My interpretation is that D was/still is used on replacement parts. If I remember right I have bought new replacement parts for post 1945 tractors with D codes, thus I should not have implied that the replacement parts could not have a D on them, although many have been changed. My Super H block is 364 265 R1. I interpret that to mean that all newly designed parts manufactured after 1945 were R's. But, although the original question has been answered, the D code identifies the engine block as being designed before 1945.

Your head #8043 DC is a High Compression gas H head

The X1 designation means you have a gasoline only engine. 8043 is not in my parts book, it is apparantly a gasoline head, the part number had changed by the time my book was printed. As I implied earlier, the later heads will have R part numbers (I think). Someone else who knows the H heads better than I do can give a definite answer.

CORRECTION
The raised pad has stamped FBH 240424, with X 1 under it and to the front of the pad. Pad is located right above the front bolt on the engine side cover.

1946 Farmall H engine. It could have more displacement due to thinner sleeves, I don't know if it can be made into a the C175 like the 350 has. Yours started out as a C152.
