Dang Gumit. From what I can tell she should be running. She has spark, I set the valves. Timing is correct ( I think), She turns over.
I can get it to pop with a shot of ether but she does not run on it. Just a quick pop. But my battery keeps running out.
Grrrr I want to go for a ride!!!!

Hi , My new to me M does the same thing to me all the time now . Friday night I went out and tryed to start it . Cranked on it till the cranking speed started to slow down ( 12 volt ) - not even a pop ! As we were getting ready to leave last night I thought I'd try it again , it started right up ! Didn't seem to turn over even 1/2 way before it popped . Danged if I know why it does it like that but it does it this way about every other time I try to start it . They have their own way's I guess and it's up to us to guess what they are . Good luck ...Randy

To see if your valve timing is correct bring No1 piston up on the compression stroke to TDC. Both valves on that cylinder should be closed. The plug wires in correct firing order. 1-5-3-6-2-4.

I think you need to recheck No1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke, then look at the rotor to where it's pointing in the distributor. Should be at No1 plug tower. Hal

Sounds like you need to go back to the bascis. You say you have spark, but does it spark at the right time. Have you checled that the carb gets gas? Do the plugs get wet? Do you have a god vacuum on the intkes of the carb, I.E. if you hold your hand over the intake of the carb does it suck your hand in?? If it does suck your hand in does your hand get wet from gas?? Don't feel bad had the same sort of thing happen to me a few weeks ago. Engine would start and I could get spark, gave up for the night and had a few beers. Went out the next day and just for the heck of it tyied to start it and if fired right up. Never have figured out what happened but it has run since.

ahhh thats a good trick with the carb.
Thats the problem I have is every thing has changed. Was a stuck tractor. with bad stuck generator, bad wireing, bad carb, bad bowl, bad clutch.
Redid the dist. purchased a rebuilt carb, new clutch. new wireing. 12 volt car altinator. New bowl. Replaced pistons/ sleeves.
Too many dang things for me to have out of whack.

Yep thats why you need to go to the bascis. So many things could be worng or it could just be kicking your but and is ready to run but you can't turn it over fast engough to get it to run. seen more then once that pulling is all it need to start first time every time from then on

I think so. I will check into that some more tomorow.
I did notice that when I pulled the line off the carb it did not drain gas until I lowered the line a bit.
If I remeber right it had some rinky dink set up from the bowl to the carb before. I changed the carb and the bowl new. But I used the old line.
I think I will cut the middle out of it tomorow and splice in some fuel line like I did on my 400.

I am just getting sooo impatiant. Only been sitting in parts 3 years.

Give it a compression check, if there are stuck valves, or (fate be the worst case) valve timing issues, it will show up.
