I would agree with old on having that shaft checked at your local auto machine shop. Would be a good time to have new cam bearings installed too. It's for having good oil pressure. Hal

The second best way is to order a set of bearings and plastigage them after installation to make sure they're OK.

Do the old bearings look OK?

If so plastigage them first to see what you've got.

Do the journals look GREAT?

It is best to have the crank checked but I have been very successful putting bearings in, plastigage, and go but I work my tractors, they are not for show.

i really dont want to pull the crank out but it does look great. there is a thin scratch in 2 of the rod journals but nothing major. i can probably clean those up pretty well. the mains look great. but the main bearings show some wear and have a couple chips out of one. and the rod bearings have some pitting. i wont show this tractor. its more for sentimental value and occasional mowing. thanks for your help

Best way to do it is to take the crank to a good machine shop and have it checked. That way you know what size it is and if its true and not out of round. A good machine shop can then order the right bearings for it.
